St. Luke’s Hospital is a voluntary welfare organization and is an affiliated member of the National Council of Social Services. However, it does not receive funding from the Community Chest. The annual operating budget of $8 million is funded mainly by subvention from the Ministry of Health and patients’ fees. The balance is raised independently through its various fund raising activities and donations from the community. As an approved Institution of a Public Character (IPC), donations given to the Hospital are tax exempted. (For more details on donations and tax deductions, please refer to IRAS web page).

Since inception, St. Luke’s Hospital has provided holistic and quality professional care to more than a thousand elderly patients each year at highly subsidized rates. Destitute patients on Public Assistance are exempted from the payment of hospital charges. However, Public Assistance may not be sufficient to cover the all of the expenses. Hence, a Patient Welfare Fund has been set up to meet the additional needs of the patients such as the purchase of medical and nursing care appliances, non-formulary drugs and other essentials. Patients who are experiencing genuine financial difficulties but are not eligible for Public Assistance may also apply for the Patient Welfare Fund.
