Located at the reception lobby of St. Luke’s Hospital (SLH), CareConnect@SLH began in January 2007 as a one-stop resource centre on caregiving to the elderly. This service complements SLH’s inpatient and outpatient services.

Who is it for?
Caregivers of the elderly
Seniors who require community support, while residing at home
Seniors poised for graceful and successful aging
Professionals working with seniors
Volunteers who assist seniors within the community

Visitors may obtain information and general advice relating to:
Issues of caregiving
Preventive health strategies
Illness and disease management for the elderly (e.g. stroke, diabetes, high blood pressure, mental health)
Community support services (e.g. daycare centres, day rehabilitation centres and other support services)
Equipment and activities of daily living aids

Caregivers with questions on the above have addressed their concerns at CareConnect@SLH and were better prepared for their roles in caregiving.

Caregivers Support Programme 2010

To equip caregivers for the elderly with caregiving knowledge and skills to better care for their loved ones and themselves.

(Focusing on the use of mobility aids and safety measures to adopt for falls prevention at home and in community)

Nutrition for the Elderly
(Focusing on the importance of nutrition and the disease relationship/ maintaining a healthy diet in the elderly)

18 Sept 2010 Saturday

Skin Care and Medications for the Elderly
(Focusing on the importance of grooming, hygiene, skin care for the elderly and prevention of pressure sores; managing and organizing medications at home, the benefits and side effects of medications)

9 Oct 2010 Saturday
2 – 4 pm

Utilizing Community Resources and Support in Caregiving
(Focusing on the importance of self-care, maid supervision and knowledge of community resources available)

Family members and helpers who are taking care of senior or person with disability (eg. stroke).

Class Size: 15 per session
Course Duration: 2 hours
Course Fee: $50 per session but FREE for those eligible for full subsidy from the Caregivers Training Grant (CTG)

Who can qualify for Caregivers Training Grant?

a caregiver looking after Person with Disability (PWD) or senior (age 65 and above) who is a Singapore Citizen or Permanent Resident;
Complete the pre-approved training course and receive the Certificate of attendance

The Caregivers Training Grant provides up to $200 per financial year for caregivers of a PWD or Senior

Continuing Education Programme for Healthcare Professionals

St Luke’s Hospital is actively involved in training healthcare professionals. We conduct monthly Continuing Medical Education for doctors working around our vicinity. Training is also provided for doctors pursuing the Diploma in Geriatric Medicine and the Masters in Family Medicine. We are also committed to conducting medical research to improve the care of our patients.
