Medical Care

St Luke’s Hospital has a committed team of specialist family physicians trained in rehabilitation and community geriatrics. They assess the medical conditions and institute suitable rehabilitative and medical treatment for the patients.

Aims
The team of resident doctors aims to:
Perform quality geriatric and functional assessment of the patients.
Institute a treatment programme that best meets a patient’s medical condition and requirements.
Help patients realize their maximum rehabilitation potential by providing reliable medical care and expert advice.

Core Strength and Expertise
St Luke’s Hospital has resident doctors and doctors under attachment as part of the MOH Attachment / Rotation Scheme. The latter, most with extensive experience in medical care, are usually Medical Officers from the acute hospitals. All the resident doctors are also experienced Registered Medical Practitioners in Singapore with postgraduate degrees and Diplomas in Geriatric Medicine (Singapore). With this pool of medical expertise, the patients are indeed in good hands as they receive quality and professional medical care.

The hospital also has dedicated geriatric consultants from Alexandra Hospital who visit St Luke’s Hospital every week. These consultants offer expert medical advice and supervision in co-operation with SLH resident doctors. They lead clinical reviews and multi-disciplinary meetings on alternate weeks for each patient.

Wound Management and Stoma Care

Since 1997, St. Luke’s Hospital has responded to changes in current wound management practices and has taken steps to change practices in the community, predominantly the management of chronic wounds and in particular, pressure ulcers. Pressure and leg ulcers constitute two of the largest categories of chronic wounds.

Post operative nursing care for stoma patients is one of the essential aspects of rehabilitation process. Nurses at St. Luke’s Hospital are knowledgeable and equipped to undertake the roles to care for such patients.

Service
The focus of the hospital is to prevent pressure ulcers and manage all wounds in a cost-effective way without compromising standards. Ultimately this results in alleviation of patients’ suffering and hopefully reduction in the duration of hospital stay.

The experienced team works together to develop an individual treatment plan for each patient based on the type and the underlying cause of the wound / stoma.

St Luke’s Hospital provides outpatient session, follow-up of wound / stoma, education to caregiver and telephone advice as required.

Who will benefit
Wound and Stoma Care benefits:
All referred patients with difficult to manage wounds.
Older patients with chronic leg ulcers like venous, arterial or mixed arterial and venous ulcers.
Patients with bed sore/pressure ulcers (including the chronically debilitated, those recovering from acute illness or trauma) or post operative wound dehiscence.
Patients and family who need to learn to care for a new constructed stoma post operatively.
