Since its launch in March 1996, St Luke’s volunteer programme has formed a core pool of volunteers who have been faithfully working alongside and supporting our hospital. Their dedication and selfless service, to the community and its people, has a tremendous impact in enhancing our service quality and has driven our operations costs to the minimal.

Throughout the years, they have been contributing their invaluable time and effort in the following areas :

Professional Services:
1 Board members ensuring good governance and management.
2 Function Committee members in the Legal, Personnel, Finance, Property and Maintenance departments.
3 Fundraising and Chaplaincy providing effective management support.
4 Medical practitioners, dentists and pharmacists giving supplementary expertise and skills.
5 Hairstylists providing free haircuts to patients.
Support Services:
1 Chaperon for patients on outpatient specialist checkups.
2 Assistance at our Day Rehabilitation Centres.
3 Project volunteers in on-going projects including fund-raising events and newsletters
4 Teams for ad-hoc tasks such as the labeling of medical records, sorting of donation books, putting up Christmas decorations, and many more
5 Administrative assistants for clerical help
6 Students in Community Involvement Programme for performances and assistance in housekeeping chores.
Appreciation
All of us at St Luke’s Hospital are very grateful for the contributions and support provided by all of our volunteers. Your participation and partnership has helped to make a huge difference to the lives of both the patients and the staff of the hospital. Countless patients have expressed their heartfelt gratitude for the care and concern shown to them by you.

All of our staff have also been encouraged and spurred on by your enthusiastic spirit of volunteerism and selflessness. We pay tribute to all who volunteer to share in our effort to serve the elderly sick in our community. You have helped us in countless ways to make St Luke’s Hospital a haven of quality care and compassionate service to those who need it most.

Volunteer Application
Our hospital is currently looking for volunteers in the following areas:

  Contribution Details
Diversional Activities • Plan and conduct social and recreational programmes for patients, e.g. bed-side games, origami, flower arrangement, music therapy, etc.
Facilitator
*Role to commence in mid-December 2012
• Weekend, 5 hours per session (10am – 3pm or 3 – 8pm)
• Assist the public, especially caregivers, in their enquiries regarding St Luke’s Hospital’s and St Luke’s ElderCare’s services
• Location is at City Square Mall, near Farrer Park MRT
• Training will be provided
Patient Escort • Ad hoc
• Usually for half a day, morning or afternoon, Monday – Friday
• Accompany patients without family support in an ambulance to the acute hospital for check up at specialist clinics
• Guide and assist the patient in the check up process and attend to his/ her needs
• May be required to speak to the Medical Social Workers
Event Helpers • Fundraising and/ or special events
• Assist in the preparation of the projects/ events e.g. packing fundraising bags/ flyers, mass mailing of newsletters, etc.
Administrative Helpers • Weekly, morning or afternoon
• Assist in general area such as man reception counters, perform simple admin duties
Patient Devotion • Friday, 12.15pm to 1.45pm
• Assist patients in wheelchairs to attend the devotion service, so that those who are feeling low in spirit can find solace and peace
Follow-up ministry • Provide follow-up on new believers who are discharged from the hospital

All are welcome to join our volunteer group. If you think you could contribute to the hospital in any way, feel free to fill up an application form which is available upon request. All applications are subject to confirmation by the hospital and the area of service will be determined by based on our needs at the time of application. All volunteers are required to attend an orientation and to undertake a code of conduct.
