Dementia care course (intermediate)

Dementia can affect the person, family and caregivers. Join this course to be equipped with the knowledge and skills to manage Behavioural and Psychological Symptoms of Dementia (BPSD).

Course objectives

  • Know how to identify behaviours of concern
  • Acquire skills to facilitate case discussions
  • Apply strategies to manage behaviours of concern related to Dementia

Course outline (3 half days)

  • Session 1
    • Exploring structures, concepts and framework of case discussions
    • Identifying and assessing behaviours of concern
    • Recapitulating the ABC Model, Unmet Needs Model, Enriched Model, Person-Centred Care

    Session 2

    • Applying knowledge from Basic Course to case studies
    • Case studies provided by participants – identifying possible interventions
    • Learning to facilitate case discussions

    Session 3

    • Applying knowledge from Basic Course to case studies
    • Follow up discussion of case studies provided by participants and developing further possible interventions
    • Practising case discussion facilitation
