Over the past 11 years, he has walked alongside countless patients through some of the biggest milestones of their lives—learning to stand again, taking their first steps after months, or simply regaining the strength to return home. These moments, though different for each person, are what have come to define his journey as a physiotherapist.
His own path into healthcare began with a simple question during his O-Level years about what he wanted to do in the future. At that time, his understanding of the field was limited to roles like doctors and nurses. It was only during National Service, in a conversation with a buddy, that he first heard about physiotherapy. Curious, he looked into it and realised it was something that resonated deeply with him—the chance to journey with patients and help them regain their independence.
He went on to study physiotherapy at Nanyang Polytechnic. The journey was not without challenges, especially with financial concerns and differing expectations at home. But an opportunity with St Luke’s Hospital gave him a clear path forward, and it was there that his career truly took shape.
What has stayed constant over the years is how deeply he connects with his patients. Many come to him after life-changing events—sudden illness, loss of mobility, or diagnoses that alter their future overnight. He does not just focus on their physical condition; he listens to their stories, understands their fears, and carries a part of their journey with him. Each setback they face, he feels. Each small improvement, he celebrates with them.
Beyond therapy sessions, he makes the effort to keep patients and their families closely involved, sharing updates and videos so they can see progress and feel reassured. To him, care is not just about treatment—it is about being present, being invested, and walking the journey together.
After more than a decade in this work, what matters most to him is not just the outcomes, but the people behind them. Every story he hears, every struggle he witnesses, reinforces why he chose this path—to stand with his patients, through the hardest moments, and helps them move forward, one step at a time.
