Triple Crown Swim

The Triple Crown Swim has concluded, but you can continue the spirit of Dr Jia Long’s journey
by giving towards patient care at St Luke’s Hospital. Thank you for your support!

This page remains available as a record of Dr Jia Long’s extraordinary Triple Crown Swim in support of St Luke’s Hospital’s patients and 30th Anniversary. While the campaign has ended, you can continue the spirit of his journey by giving towards patient care at St Luke’s Hospital.

In an extraordinary display of courage, compassion, and endurance, LTC (Dr) Chua Jia Long of the Singapore Navy is taking on the 115km Triple Crown of Open Water Swimming – one of the world’s toughest challenges – to raise $1.5 million in support of St Luke’s Hospital’s 30th Anniversary and the patients we serve every day.

This September, Dr Chua will swim the Catalina Channel, around Manhattan Island, and the English Channel, becoming the first Singaporean to attempt this record-breaking feat in the shortest time.

During this challenge, I’ll be enduring long, quiet swims - sometimes through the night and lasting more than 10 hours. That’s my way of standing in solidarity with patients who endure their own long and difficult journeys.

Inspired by Care, Driven to Give Back

The Triple Crown Swim is Dr Chua’s second major fundraising effort for St Luke’s Hospital.

In 2023, he made history as the first Singaporean to complete the 8 Bridges Hudson River Swim, an open-water swim race in New York that requires participants to swim 120 miles (192km), raising $250,000 for the hospital.

“During my time here, I witnessed how the multidisciplinary care team cared deeply for each patient — not just attending to their medical needs but supporting them as a whole person. That experience left a profound impact on me. This swim is my way of giving back to the hospital and the patients whose resilience continues to inspire me,” said Dr Chua, who served as a medical officer at St Luke’s Hospital in 2020.

His story was featured on Channel NewsAsia, The Straits Times, Lianhe Zaobao and more.

Every Gift Brings Hope

Dr Chua’s journey is powered by purpose – but he cannot do it alone.

As Singapore approaches super-aged status by 2026 – with one in four citizens expected to be aged 65 and above by 2030 – the demand for complex, integrated care for older persons is growing rapidly.

Since 1996, St Luke’s Hospital has journeyed alongside older persons as a community health partner, supporting patients across the full care continuum, from preventive, curative to palliative care. Today, our care ecosystem spans inpatient, outpatient, home care and community-based programmes, with special focus in four peaks of excellence, including dementia, palliative, rehabilitation and wound care.

Every year, we disburse approximately $5 million in financial aid, supporting over 7,500 patients, many from lower-income backgrounds and face serious or chronic conditions. They may be recovering from surgery, coping with amputation or living with chronic or life-threatening conditions that require ongoing medical or rehabilitative care.

All proceeds from this fundraising campaign will go towards helping St Luke’s Hospital provide care for the whole person, extend financial assistance and improve access to integrated, community healthcare services.
